Sailing Through On A Wedding Cruise

Posted by Wealth Group | 11:30 AM | 0 comments »

When it comes to preparing for your wedding, there is no doubt you want to have the perfect day and the perfect event. That is what every bride dreams of. But there are a lot of things that need to go right to make it happen, and those are things you may not want to be burdened with. In addition to having to plan the wedding from the onset, if you also have to make sure everything is happening when it needs to happen on the wedding day - that a minister is in place on time, and that the entertainment will show up and play the songs you need them to play in the order you need them to play them - your special day may be more stressful than blissful.

There is a way to remove much of that stress. Consider letting someone else do the work and even getting an early start on your honeymoon at the same time by having your wedding aboard a cruise ship. While you may have only thought that a cruise ship can take care of the honeymoon plans after the wedding, they are also completely skilled in hosting the big event itself. Most cruise ships have their very own wedding planner and staff that can take your budget into account as well as what you want in your wedding experience and make it all happen, while you enjoy the changing scenery aboard the decks of the ship as you visit fabulous wedding destinations.

If your concern is how much it will cost, it's not as much as you would think. The cost for a wedding planner on land is usually a few thousand dollars. The same services aboard a ship can cost less than a thousand dollars. But, what about all the guests you want to invite, do they need to buy a cruise as well? No. Luckily, cruise lines understand that all the people you know do not want to go on a wedding and honeymoon voyage with you, so they will allow guests to come onboard for the wedding itself, and the reception, then go ashore when it's all wrapped up, as you take off on your wedding cruise.

Since cruise ships have a major staff at their daily disposal who are accustomed to being part of a high-quality entertainment venue, they can often effortlessly pull together a wedding you will never forget with all the details you had only dreamed off. Many cruise lines offer affordable wedding packages including Disney Cruises, Carnival Cruises, and Princess Cruises. If you select to go with Princess Cruises, they also have a number of extra special packages chock full of additional flowers, a stringed quartet and a variety of extravagant extras that will make you feel like you are royalty on your special day.

When travelers decide to visit the Caribbean, and are looking for the island with the best weather and most incredible beaches, American Express Travel suggests its clients indulge in the experience of a luxury vacation package to Bermuda. Another popular choice for travelers is to explore the beauty of Bermuda traveling by water with a luxury world cruise. This island chain holds an infamous past of "attracting" the travelers of old, and now offers a whole new generation the chance to become lost in the wonder and beauty of paradise on a seemingly untouched island.

The Climate

The Bermuda island chain was once known as the Bermuda triangle, a place where the most experienced sailors could easily become lost and confused. With about 140 islands making up this island chain, Bermuda has a number of luxury resorts that are sometimes the only structure on the island. Bermuda's location is perfect for travelers seeking to experience the majesty of the Caribbean. The water surrounding the Bermuda island chain is warmed by the Gulf Stream. Although the climate is best characterized as "tropic", the Bermuda island chain manages to avoid the relentless tropic heat that can be found on other islands within the Caribbean, thanks the constant yet gentle trade winds. In addition, most of the Bermuda islands are relatively small, allowing travelers and natives to avoid trap inland heat.

The Weather

The weather in the Bermuda island chain is a constant. There are relatively no extremes, which can sometimes occur on other Caribbean islands. The hottest part of the year is usually May through October. The temperatures during Bermuda's spring and summer are between 75°F and 85°F. During the winter months of late October through April, the average temperature is around 70°F. Although the summer months are characteristically drier, rainfall can be found throughout the year. Most luxury resorts and hotels in Bermuda offer a number of activities to occupy travelers for the short hour of momentary clouds. Since rainstorms create the island's only supply of fresh water, residents and travelers welcome the storms. But the rain in Bermuda is short, sweet, and refreshing, as well as few and far between. One of the best parts of beautiful Bermuda weather is that hurricanes are not nearly as prevalent, nor as common here as they are in other islands in the Caribbean. And although they do occasionally come near Bermuda, a direct hurricane only hits once every seven years or so, with minimum damage.

Those who wish to get away from it all can experience the amazing climate and weather of the Bermuda island chain. Bermuda has prime positioning in the Caribbean, giving it access to the warm Gulf waters and tropical climate. But because of the small sizes of the islands, no matter how far inland you go - the sun is rarely oppressive. And not many luxury vacation destinations can practically guarantee weather between 70°F and 85°F year round. Bermuda is truly an incredible place for the leisure traveler to experience.

Cruise Port of Call: Nassau, Bahamas

History

The Bahamas were discovered by Christopher Columbus during his first voyage. He called the area "baja mar", which means low or shallow sea, and the name stayed to this day. The British arrived in the 1600s after the Spaniards had left in search of gold, and many British fleeing the American Revolution settled there, along with southerners during the American Civil War. The Bahamas became an independent member of the British Commonwealth in 1973.

Nassau, the capital city, is located on New Providence Island. There are many historic sights including the Government House, the Queen's Staircase and the statue of Queen Victoria in Parliament Square.

Things to Do

Nassau is a fun port to visit, and you can do everything from swimming with the dolphins to shopping at the Straw Market. You may choose to explore Nassau on your own, or sign up for a shore excursion to the nearby Atlantis resort on Paradise Island. Here is a list of some of the more popular activities in Nassau:

Take a harbor cruise around Nassau harbor;

Enjoy snorkeling or scuba diving in the beautiful coral reefs;

Have a once-in-a-lifetime encounter swimming with dolphins;

Enjoy the beach and casino at Cable Beach or Paradise Island;

Tour the Atlantis Resort on Paradise Island, which includes a unique themed aquarium; or

Enjoy a relaxing day shopping on Bay Street for unique items from around the world.

Getting Around

Getting around Nassau is relatively easy, whether you decide upon a shore excursion or to explore on your own. If you are planning on staying in town to enjoy the shops and sights, than a self-guided walking tour may be your best bet. If you are planning to visit the beaches and casinos at either Cable Beach, or across the bridge at Paradise Island, taxis and jitneys are available as you leave the wharf.

Weather

They say that it's 'better in the Bahamas', and concerning the weather – they are generally correct! Temperature in this subtropical area range from about 70-90 degrees Fahrenheit, with warm ocean breezes. Enjoy a beautiful day in the Bahamas!

Disney Cruise Ports of Call

Disney Cruise Ports of Call

While the Disney cruise ships themselves are a fabulous vacation destination, they are also a floating 'Fantasyland', traveling to beautiful and exotic ports of call. If you can manage to tear yourself away from the activities and amenities of the Disney cruise ships for a few hours, many wonderful adventures await you when the ship docks.

The Disney Wonder departs each Sunday from Port Canaveral for a 4 night cruise, and again each Thursday for a 3 night cruise. Both itineraries include stops at Nassau, Bahamas and Castaway Cay, Disney's own private island paradise. The 4 night cruise also includes either one day at sea, or an additional stop at Freeport, Bahamas.

The Disney Magic departs from Port Canaveral each Saturday for a 7 night cruise, and it alternates between cruising the eastern Caribbean and the western Caribbean. The Eastern Caribbean cruise includes stops at St. Thomas/St. John, St. Maarten and Castaway Cay, while the Western Caribbean itinerary includes stops at Key West. Cozumel, Grand Caymen and Castaway Cay.

This summer of 2007. The Disney Magic has departed from its usual journey around the Caribbean, and instead has traveled across the Atlantic to cruise the Mediterranean for the summer months. It is departing from Barcelona, Spain for 10 and 11 night cruises to beautiful cities on the Mediterranean, with stops in Italy, France, Spain and Sicily. Next summer, the Disney Magic will travel through the Panama Canal to spend the summer on the Mexican Riviera, with stops at Cabo San Lucas, Puerto Vallerta and Mazatlan.

Beware that the passport rules for American travelers have changed, and may or may not affect your travel plans. As of today, passports are required for all travel across borders by air - including Mexico, the Bahamas and the Caribbean, but not for travelers who arrive by cruise ship. They are planning to make passports required for cruise ship travelers soon - perhaps as early as January, so be sure to keep posted as to the rules. Even when passports are not required, having one certainly makes disembarking much quicker, and the wait for passports is extremely long due to the changing rules, so if you need a passport, be sure to apply sooner rather than later.

Cruisin’ and Tourin’ the Panama Canal

Posted by Wealth Group | 11:30 AM | 0 comments »

Well, we're back at it again. Cruising I mean. This time, we're taking a Carnival Cruise to the Panama Canal. While investigating the tours available, I was again amazed at the wide variety of shore excursions available.

Our cruise has only three stops in eight days. Our first stop is in Costa Maya, Mexico for a nine hour stay. The next port-of-call is Limon, Costa Rica for eight hours of fun. The last port will be Colon, Panama at the start of the Panama Canal for a nine hour stop-over.

Each port-of call has at least one shore excursion that would appeal to most everyone. We obviously can't take all of the excursions, so, decisions have to be made.

In Cost Maya, Mexico, Carnival (on-line) offers a full two dozen possibilities! For the culture buffs there are two different Mayan ruins excursions to choose from as well as a "Mayan Culture Experience" tour.

Perhaps you would prefer to take a motor coach tour of the Costa May area and check out the highlights or you could choose the "Town & Beach Break Combo".

For the adventuresome, Carnival offers horseback riding, Or, you could choose from the four different off-road tours, including jeep, kart, mini-rhino or dune buggy adventures. Two speedy water adventures are offered as well. How about a fly-fishing adventure in this very exclusive corner of the world?

Carnival offers twelve different beach and water sports excursions. Scuba diving, snorkelling, kayaking (in cool clear bottom kayaks!) and catamaran sailing are all included in these excursions.

Carnival lists one less excursion (twenty-three) for Limon Costa Rica. Many of these include the canals and rivers in the rain forest areas. Aerial trams, zip lines, boat cruises, kayaking, wagon or train – take your pick!

Tours to various plantations may be of more interest. Choose from coffee beans, pineapples, bananas - or perhaps the Costa Flores Tropical Gardens?

Take a horse-back ride or go white water rafting. Bike through a Caribbean Village. Explore Costa Rica on an off-road excursion. Carnival offers them all.

In Colon, Panama, Carnival's on-line offerings include a dozen interesting excursions. Take a step back in time and visit an Embera Indian village where the tribe lives today much as they did when Balboa first set foot in Panama.

Of course, the main highlight for many here will be the Panama Canal, once considered the eighth wonder of the world. Six of the offered tours include the canal.

There is a golf course with the canal as a backdrop. You can fish at Gatun Lake, one of the most famous canals in the world.

Visit Portobello, the "Pirate's Paradise". Or take the Isthmian Railroad and see the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean both in one hour.

With so much to do while on board the cruise ship, and the broad diversity of excursions available is it any wonder why vacation cruising is becoming so popular?

A Relaxing Ireland Vacation

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:30 AM | 0 comments »

Well we all love our vacations right? It is as much about winding down and relaxing away the stresses of every day modern life as it is about visiting new and possibly exotic places we have never seen or experienced. It is all to easy in our high paced lives to miss out on vacations and concentrate too much on our jobs and incomes. Well this year I decided I was going to have that break I needed and decided on an Ireland vacation as having lived there for a couple of years in my younger days I knew that life there outside of Dublin was very easy paced and was exactly what I wanted.

Well things have definitely changed in Ireland. They have had a lot of investment pumped in via the European market and things there are not a lot different than here in the states. People rushing about no time for the traditional Irish welcome and I was beginning to think I had made a mistake. However I am not easily discouraged so I decided to change my itinerary somewhat and take a river cruise down the glorious river Shannon. When I arrived at the departure point I was initially a bit disappointed in the quality and age of my river cruiser. However once I discovered the speed limit is only 5mph I decide it really did not matter.

My wife and especially the kids really loved it so we all piled in and after a short instruction, short because I used to be a yacht skipper in a former life, so I guess the instructor figured I would be fine. to be honest there really is not a lot to it, as the slow speed really reduces the amount of damage you can do and there is only a couple of weirs to avoid so really a beginner will have no problems.

We had a truly idyllic 10 days on the cruise. Saw some of the amazing Irish countryside, including some fabulous traditional Irish pubs which were great for lunch and dinner and of course the mandatory Guinness. It turned out to be the most relaxing vacation I have ever had, which dads among you will know is not always easy. All in all I would highly recommend it to anyone.

Taking A Cruise

Posted by Wealth Group | 10:30 AM | 0 comments »

Now that you have decided that you want to take a cruise, the next step is to decide where to go. There are hundreds of destinations for you to choose from, which can make your decision a difficult one. When considering which cruise to take, keep in mind how much you have to spend, which part of the world you want to travel to, and how long you want your cruise to be. These factors are usually enough to make your decision a little easier.

Cruises range in price, so you should find one that suits your budget. Keep in mind that you may have to pay for air travel or rental car if you do not live close to a port city. Overnight hotel stays should also be figured into your budget. Money for clothing, supplies, and food while on the cruise should account for a certain percentage of your budget. If you don't have a passport and you need one, you will have to pay for this also. As you can see, there are many small costs in addition to booking a cabin on the ship. Once you have figured out these costs, you will be better able to create a working budget.

Choosing where you would like to visit will definitely help you narrow your choices. Many people choose a cruise to places they have not been to before. If you are interested in visiting certain cities, choose a cruise that stops in or around the region you want to visit. Some cruises stop in multiple areas for one or more days. This will give you plenty of time for exploring and experiencing new cultures.

The longer your cruise, the more it will cost. Keep this in mind when creating a budget and choosing your destination. Shorter cruises may not stop in any port cities or they may only stop in one. Also, the crowds will be different on shorter cruises. If you want to go on a cruise that has a younger population on it, then a shorter cruise is perfect. Longer cruises include more stops and usually have an older crowd. Depending on the amount of time you have to take a cruise, you should plan accordingly and take air travel or car travel to the boat into consideration.

As you can see, there are many factors that go into choosing a cruise. Any time you travel, you should research the areas you will be travelling in to decide if these are the places you are truly interested in visiting. Spending a lot of money for a cruise you are not interested in going on is not the best vacation. Most cruise lines offer detailed descriptions about what to expect and how to plan for a cruise. Sign up to receive brochures and emails about special deals and other information that can make your next cruise more pleasant.
